I find it a privilege to spend time studying and drawing the intricacies of a feather or shell. My response is to respect this beautiful planet and love the Creator.

It is my intention, that my artwork would cause people to notice the exquisite details we are surrounded by. That they would open their senses to the little everyday things. Stop for a moment to enjoy creation.

Each of the precious elements of nature are shaped by time, water, wind and sun and they are influenced by the changing seasons. They are all fragments of a larger picture, each one reliant on all of the others to continue the circle of life. We are all knitted into this circle.

The abstract elements of design are for me the tools of communication. Often working in series I explore a concept and break down the idea into visual language. Each artwork is complete in itself but fits into the series to work as a group of images. The entirety of my work is not usually apparent at first glance but a subtle symbolism weaves through the images.

Most of my pictures are works on paper, including printmaking, pastel and mixed media. My training was in traditional etching techniques, however for the past few years I have been working with solarplate. I use original artwork to make a negative which is transferred onto the plate using UV light. The plates are processed by scrubbing out the soft unexposed areas of polymer in water. After the plate has been hardened in the sun it is permanent.

I use both intaglio and relief plates, inking and printing them in the traditional way on an etching press. Although my prints are editioned, many of them are unique, because I vary the ink colour and hand colouring and I use different combinations of layers. Each time a plate is printed I count it as one out of the edition.
